Saltus River Grill is a unique, and exciting restaurant in historic downtown Beaufort, South Carolina. With a grand view of the Intracoastal Waterway from its Sonoma-style patio or from the expansive full-service bar and dining room, this sizzling contemporary seafood grill combines the atmosphere of a chic Manhattan eatery with the historic charm found only in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

A unique, historic location...

The history of the Saltus River Grill's location is as interesting as the restaurant's menu and extensive wine selections.

• The building was first constructed in 1787 by the famous Southern Shipbuilder John Francis Saltus and is attached to one of the oldest tabby buildings in the United States.

• The actual restaurant sits on the site of the Saltus & Talbird Shipyard that turned out sailing ships and gunboats into the 1800s.

• A landmark in the 400-year-old city of Beaufort, the building was later sold to the Habersham Family and is widely known to locals for the Belk-Simpson Department store that was opened there in the 1950s.

Respect for the past as well the present...

When Saltus River Grill Owner, Lantz Price, and designer, Whitney Rietz, began the renovations of the historic building and the construction of the restaurant more than a year ago, they took great care to respect the history of the bustling shipping era that has helped define the Lowcountry and Beaufort for so long.

Large "portals" backlit from the kitchen and enormous sail canvas photographs are just a few of the details that will remind you of the building's rich past. The modern amenities, the friendly professional staff, the comfortable seating and eclectic atmosphere will impress you in the present.

The best wine and food in the Lowcountry...

Chef Jim Spratling's talents go beyond his work in the kitchen. In addition to designing and preparing the menus of food and wine himself, Jim believes that the purity of ingredients and simplicity of presentation highlights a meal's elegance.

His demand and insistence for the freshest local ingredients combined with his ability to present his creations classically and artfully means more than just dinner. It's a unique experience.

From the moment you enter until your last sip of espresso, General Manager Rose Copeland and her staff make it their personal mission in life to see that your dining experience is nothing less than extraordinary.
